[My Favourite Sins] Donuts, Binging and Failure
The one thing I HATE about Krispy Kremes, is going around in circles...
Wait... Was that a donut pun?
Oh no no no, don't leave!
Well for all of you that are left..
The Student Trap is a real problem.
So are donuts.. 🤤
We gotta talk about this because I suffered from this BIG TIME.
The Student Trap - not the donuts.
Ok maybe the donuts a little.
Anyway, this almost caused me to fail hard.
Getting stuck in the binge-sesh cycle of watching online courses can be dangerous.
Now I am not saying learning is bad.
But if you have been binge watching several courses because you're afraid of starting.. then we have an issue.
You'll learn the basic fundamentals from working through a guided course.
But nothing can prepare you for the real thing..
Only experience can push you forward at this point.
I remember literally finishing one course that cost me $997 thinking:
'Yeah, ahuh, but that still doesn't make me feel prepared to take on clients or sell my stuff...'
This went on for months..
More money down the drain..
More feelings of inadequacy.
So how did I get out?
I just went cold turkey.
Simple as that.
I decided that if I couldn't make it work with the knowledge that I had already...
Then I just shouldn't do it at all. 🤷♂️
So after a week, I started to talk to my regular networking circle like I normally would..
Then all of the sudden, out of the blue.. someone asked me to write for them.
I was like, wait what? How did you...?
At this point, no one actually knew that I was studying copywriting..
So I was like, 'Yeah, let's do it!'
Once that job was done, another came up.
This was weird.
I think the second you stop studying and become more aware of your knowledge...
Your mindset changes and you subconsciously open yourself up to more opportunities..
In case you have been stuck in the student trap:
Take this as a sign that you need to stop, put it down and spread your wings..
You ARE good enough.
JUST START.
Figure out the hiccups along the way - no course can protect you from what is to come on your business journey.
Alright, time for me to finish these Krispy Kremes...
It's cheat day ok...
Stay safe, talk soon.
Cheers,
Mike.
